All-Party Meeting Held at Parliament After Military Action(India and Pakistan)
Military Action and Strategic Goals
India initiated Operation Sindoor, a joint military operation against what it termed terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation represented a major heightening of regional tensions and was said to have been carried out to neutralize cross-border threats. The Indian government termed it a proactive counter-terrorism operation.
Casualties and Escalation
On the same day of the strikes, Pakistan carried out intensive shelling, claiming 13 lives, including 12 civilians and an Indian Army officer, and wounding more than 50 people, including two CRPF jawans. The escalation has further vitiated security on the Indo-Pak border.
All-Party Briefing
Subsequently, the Central government organized an all-party meeting at Parliament House. Top Union Ministers—Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman, Rajnath Singh, and S. Jaishankar—informed political parties of the strategic reasoning, the success of the strike, and upcoming diplomatic and security action. The secret meeting is indicative of attempts to forge national consensus and maintain political cohesion in a delicate security scenario.
Nationwide Preparedness Measures
As a precautionary measure against likely retaliatory actions by Pakistan, India has triggered large-scale civil defence measures. More than 244 civil defence districts held practice exercises in air raid sirens, blackouts, evacuation drills, and emergency medical facilities. These exercises were designed to evaluate and improve national readiness for any large-scale hostile action. Scores of defence staff made sure that these exercises were conducted with high operational fidelity.
